Come ride with us in the 2019 Fairfax Independence Day Parade!

All recumbent cyclists are encouraged to join us on Thursday July 4th 2019 at 8:45am for our participation in the Fairfax City Independence Day Parade.
Do you know a vet with a trike? Ask him to join us!
Do you know a vet without a trike who would like to join us? Let us know - we might be able to find a loaner for him.
Costumes are not necessary but welcomed; 4th-of-July-themed bike decorations are expected. We usually have extra flags and red-white-blue crepe paper to share.
We are in Division 6 this year. (It's the next-to-the-last division in the parade, so if there any elephants it's likely they are ahead of us.) Our holding area is in the blue area at the corner of West St. and Main St. Just look for all the trikes.
If you want to join us at the shop to ride down to the start point, please arrive at the shop by 7:45am so we can depart by 8:00am!

For general information on the parade, see the link below:

Vienna Halloween Parade - October 24th, 2018

Every year, bikes@vienna rides in the Town of Vienna's Annual Halloween parade. Bring your bike or trike, decorate it and and dress up, and be ready for fun! We meet at the shop at 6pm, so we can ride to our start point by 7. The parade typically takes about 2 hours, and we'll be having food and beverages afterwards. Come on out and have a truly unique experience.

This year we have a special guest joining us for the ride - John Brunow, who first opened bikes@vienna just over 20 years ago! All the more reason to join us!

If you or someone you know would like to ride in the parade, but don't have a bike or trike, we DO provide "loaners" so don't let that stop you! Come one, come all!

Make Black Friday a Green Friday!

Once again, we're going to be CLOSED on Black Friday (11/24/16).  Since none of us here are really fond of braving the crowds on Black Friday at other stores, we're going to try something different... we're going for a bike ride!

Many of you probably recall our famous Guilt Reduction Rides, which used to be held on Thanksgiving Day.  We took a hiatus from those the last few years, and now we're hoping you can join us on Friday instead.  Think about it... a bike ride in the fresh air, or sitting in traffic, fighting your way to some big box store sale?

We'll leave from the shop at 10:00am, so please try to get here a bit ahead of that.  Our destination is the train station in downtown Herndon.  We'll have coffee and tea and perhaps some treats back at the shop.

Since we're a drop off point for donated food for the folks at the Committee Helping Others, we encourage everyone to bring some canned goods to help out those less fortunate!

DIRCK HARRIS 1951 - 2017

On August 31st Dirck Harris, a customer and good friend of ours passed away. He was an avid cyclist, a member and president of the W&OD Trail Patrol. A frequent visitor at the shop, we always enjoyed his sense of humor and genuine kindness. A talented photographer with a true love of the natural world, he often answered our “what the heck is that?” questions about flora and fauna. Dirck will be sorely missed by all of us here at the shop. A good man, gone far too soon. His passing was due to mesothelioma, the result of serving in boiler rooms in the Navy many years ago. Donations may be made in his name at the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, and we welcome all of you to contribute. To that end, on Saturday, September 23rd, 10% of all proceeds at the shop will be donated to this fund. To donate directly, go to: http://www.curemeso.org/tributewall

To read more about Dirck, please see:

Fourth of July Parade Ride for Recumbents

The Fairfax Recumbent Riders group has been accepted to ride in this year's parade.
All recumbent cyclists are encouraged to join us on Tuesday July 4th 2017 at 8:45am for our sixth participation in the Fairfax City Independence Day Parade, the largest in Northern VA.  Or you can meet us at the shop at 7:30am to ride down to Fairfax for the parade.
Do you know a veteran with a trike? Ask him to join us!
Do you know a vet without a trike who would like to join us? Let us know - we might be able to find a loaner for him.
Don't own a recumbent yourself? Contact us - there's a good chance we'll be able to provide a loaner for you.
Costumes are not necessary but welcomed; 4th-of-July-themed bike decorations are expected. We usually have extra flags and red-white-blue crepe paper to share.
Hopefully we are ahead of the elephants (if you've ridden with us in the past, you'll know why this is a good thing; otherwise, use your imagination).

A new demo trike to try from HP Velotechnik!

We've got an exciting new demo trike from HP Velotechnik now.  Part of their Scorpion family, this is a Scorpion Plus 20, with 20" wheels all around.  Designed with a high seating position for ease of getting on and off the seat, and a full suspension to smooth the ride.

To top it all off, this one has the new STEPS electric assist system from Shimano.  A crank based system, it has a sophisticated control system, that in this case is married to Shimano's Alfine 8 speed internally geared hub, offering the option of automatic shifting for a truly care free ride.  Come on in and check it out.
